The citation (ticket) you received gives you 14 days to appear or post bail. You may, pay in person, mail your payment or put it in the drop box located in the parking lot east of City Hall. We now have the capability to pay online.
If you do not do something (appear or forfeit) within 14 calendar days from the date written on the ticket, then a LATE NOTICE is mailed - adding $50 to your fine. If you do not respond to the late notice, then (1) a "failure to appear" violation is added AND (2) a warrant is issued for your arrest, adding another $250 or more to your charges.
You may get an attorney to represent you if you wish, but it is not necessary in Justice Court.
For First-Time Offenders and Minor Traffic Violations:
If you do
NOT wish to contest the ticket you must:
- Pay the fine in full by mail or pay in person or on the web. You will need your citation # or case # to do so.
- If you do not have the money for your fine, call the court to make arrangements to see the Judge regarding payment arrangements.
- If your record is clean and you have a minor traffic violation, the traffic class might be an option for you, provided you have not had a plea in abeyance or been to traffic school anywhere within the last 3 years.
- Call the court or appear within 14 days.
If you want to contest the ticket you must call the court within 14 days to make arrangements for an arraignment (to enter a "not guilty" plea).
