About South Jordan City

The City of South Jordan was founded in 1859, and incorporated as a town on November 8, 1935. The area was largely agricultural and residential until the early 1990's when it began experiencing double-digit population growth. Since then, South Jordan has become one of the fastest growing cities in Utah and the nation. As we continue to grow, the City of South Jordan continues to maintain a great working relationship with local and national media.

Public Information Officers

The City of South Jordan has public information officers for three different areas of responsibility.

Fire Department
The Fire Department Public Information Officers can be contacted through Dispatch, (801) 840-4000.

Police Department
In the South Jordan Police Department, the Lieutenant supervising the shift when an incident has occurred has the responsibility to serve as the Public Information Officer.
Lt. Dan Starks has the responsibility for supervising the Lieutenants and serves as the lead PIO. Lt. Starks can be reached at (801) 891-0853.

City of South Jordan
The Public Information Officer for general City matters is Kelly Pfost, Associate Director of Information & Records. Ms. Pfost may be reached at 801-254-3742 ext. 1364 for media inquiries.

Interview Requests

South Jordan elected officials, such as the Mayor and City Council members, may be contacted individually by media members. Due to the busy nature of their public service, we ask media members to please be respectful of their time and avoid calling at inappropriate times. Government Records Access Management Act (GRAMA)

News agencies or individuals seeking to review or obtain copies of city records or other information indentified in GRAMA must contact the City Recorder. The City Recorder's Office can be reached Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at (801) 254-3742. A GRAMA request form is required for each request, and a printable version can be found here.
