(*Traffic School is not an option for speeding tickets within a school zone.)
(1) Pre-Qualify Yourself
Only qualifying motorists are allowed to take traffic school. Any of the following disqualifies you:
- Any other traffic ticket in the past 3 years in the U.S.
- Any agreement with any court to either reduce or dismiss a traffic ticket within the last 3 years in the U.S.
- Speeding more than 20 mph over the limit
- Speeding more than 30 mph in a school zone
- Ticket is marked "must appear"
(2) Apply for Traffic School (Options)
The court must receive your plea-in-abeyance (legal form provided online or at the courthouse) within 14 days of issuance of ticket. You may fax in the Plea-in-Abeyance form. You may apply for traffic school within 5 days of the issue date, but you will not get an answer until the court has the citation in the system. You have 60 days from the date of approval to pay the fine,complete the traffic school and get the completion certificate from the traffic school into the court.
To Apply Online:
Allow enough time to mail or hand deliver your legal paperwork to the court before the 14 days are up.
- Go to www.DrivingBasics.com
- Click the "Sign Up" button
- Select "Ticket Dismissal" court (top left)
- Select: Utah as the ticketing state, Salt Lake as the county, and South Jordan Justice Court as the court
- Continue through the application process

To apply In Person:
You must apply no sooner than 5 days but no later than 14 days from the ticket date at the South Jordan Justice Court (1600 West Towne Center Drive) during an open arraignment session. Contact the court for hours at 801-254-6381.
(3) Attend Traffic School
Traffic school must be completed within 60 days of court approval
Total Cost: Ticket fine amount (paid to the court)
Plus $50.00 for the traffic school court (paid online)
Course Duration: Approximately 2 hours
